  • Hendricks Park will offer a 360-degree virtual tour & convert Fairmount Blvd into a one-way street from May 10, 7 a.m. to May 11 to manage high visitor numbers on Mother's Day weekend while staff encourage visits to other local parks.  NBC 16

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lane Community College will close its South Eugene dental clinic on June 30 because of budget cuts addressing a $4 million deficit; the clinic offered care since 2013 and will help patients find other dental providers (spokesperson Jenna McCulley said the change follows a new on-campus dental program).  KEZI
  • Canvas is back up as local colleges including UO, OSU and Lane Community College recovered from a hack by the group Shiny-Hunters last Thursday, which disrupted finals by limiting access to coursework and prompted advisories for students to log out (as security teams continue to investigate).  NBC 16

  • On Saturday, May 9, Rep. Janelle Bynum wrote to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CDC acting director (Dr. Jay Bhatacharya) urging help for 17 Americans stranded on the MV Hondius amid a hantavirus outbreak that claimed three lives; the ship awaits clearance in the Canary Islands.  KVAL
  • Oregon Rep. Bynum sent a letter to federal officials asking for urgent help for 17 Americans on the MV Hondius after a hantavirus outbreak led to three deaths; 145 passengers and crew are still onboard as the ship awaits clearance to dock in the Canary Islands (one is her constituent).  NBC 16
