  • The Greenhill Humane Society held its 32nd Bark in the Park at Alton Baker Park on Sunday morning with over 1,100 participants and 800 dogs, raising nearly $97,000—just shy of its goal. The event comes as looming Eugene budget cuts may affect the shelter's future support.  KEZI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Monday morning, the Lane Fire Authority responded to a barn fire on the 88000 block of Vinyard Lane near Veneta—six fire personnel controlled the blaze, no injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.  KVAL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Average gasoline prices in Eugene increased by 6 cents in the past week to $3.84 per gallon as GasBuddy’s survey of 78 stations shows rising costs compared to a month ago while remaining 35 cents lower than last year. National data shows gasoline and diesel prices are also climbing due to higher oil costs — motorists can expect one of the more affordable summers for road travel since the pandemic.  KVAL

  • The City is celebrating National Public Works Week from May 18—24 to honor public works employees who keep Eugene running smoothly by maintaining services such as wastewater testing, environmental safety, and park upkeep. HEALTH NEWS

  • Lane Blood Center in Eugene is urging blood donations as summer nears because the 100 deadliest days from Memorial Day to Labor Day see increased need for blood after more accidents occur. Donors 16 or older receive a $30 e-gift card until May 30 — the center also offers a free day pass to the Lane County Fair for each donation.  KLCC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Oregon softball won two games on Sunday by beating Stanford 15-5 and then coming back 10-7 when Dezianna Patmon's seventh inning swing sealed their win, which sent the team into the Super Regionals. The Ducks will host the Super Regional starting Friday, May 23.  KVAL
  • The men of Oregon won the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Eugene on Sunday — head coach Jerry Schumacher earned his first outdoor title with the Ducks. Oregon runners set records in the 3,000m steeplechase and 5,000m — the women finished second behind USC with Silan Ayyildiz and Diana Cherotich breaking old meet marks.  KLCC
