COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Roscoe (43-pound mixed breed) is a friendly pup looking for an active forever family and is part of a foster-to-adopt program at Greenhill Humane Society; he loves playing fetch, learning new tricks, and is good with kids but needs a home without cats.  KEZI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at the Rainbow Village Apartments in Springfield on May 19 — containing the blaze to one unit while they evaluated the occupants outside as the cause remains under investigation.  KEZI
  • Early on May 18 (at 2:12 a.m.), first responders in Upper McKenzie were dispatched for a water rescue when a local resident fell into Horse Creek; rescuers located the victim on a bank and McKenzie Fire and Rescue helped transfer the patient to a waiting ambulance while the reporting party received emergency care for stress.  KEZI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After Tuesday’s election, Lane Community College Board of Education has a full seven-member panel for the first time since last November as incumbents in Zones 3, 4, and 7 kept their seats while former Lane County Commissioner Jerry Rust defeated challenger Jeffery Cooper in the only contested race without an incumbent—Rust received 64% of the vote.  KLCC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Coos, Lane and Linn counties cast ballots in the May special election with measures covering city charters, fee increases and bond issues. In Coos County a charter amendment passed with 63% support while votes in Lane and Linn counties had close splits on measures for sewer rates, local levies and school bonds—showing varied community opinions.  KEZI
