- ➤ Authorities are responding to an active incident near W. 8th and Monroe St. with SWAT teams from the Eugene Police Department and Lane County Sheriff's Office on scene—there is no indication of a public threat. NBC 16

- ➤ The Museum of Natural and Cultural History on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene has a new exhibit called 'Transgressors' that shows art by Indigenous queer artists exploring what it means to live at the intersection of Indigenous identity and queerness. The exhibit opened May 15 and will run until Jan. 4—displaying works that blend tradition with visions for the future. KLCC

- ➤ AAA projects that 39.4 million people will travel by car over Memorial Day weekend—among them 506,000 Oregonians—as drivers will pay about 50 cents less per gallon than last year. Airports in Eugene, Portland, Bend, and on the Oregon Coast will see record crowds as 617,000 Oregonians are expected to travel overall. KLCC

- ➤ The special election held on May 20 had nearly 18.7% statewide voter turnout with Lane County near 15% — Coos County over 21% and Douglas County under 10% as ballots were counted. - ➤ For the first time since 2016, fatal drug overdoses in Oregon dropped by 22% from 2023 to 2024. State and local health officials said the decline came from expanded treatment, wider naloxone access and harm-reduction strategies—efforts that helped save lives despite rates still remaining higher than before the pandemic.
