  • Breakfast at the Bike Bridges event series is underway in Eugene, offering free food, coffee, bike safety checks and a chance to meet City Transportation staff during morning hours from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. from May through September at stops including DeFazio, Greenway, Knickerbocker and Frohnmayer Bridges—backed by local sponsors and community groups.  City of Eugene
  • Yesterday, the City Club of Eugene honored three community advocates—Sharon Posner, Paul Solomon and Oblio Stroyman—with its Turtle Awards during an annual meeting that also elected new board members. The club posthumously recognized seven locals, including past honoree Anita Johnson, and broadcast the program at 7:00 p.m. on KLCC 89.7 FM.  KLCC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 1st, a fire on Shady Loop in Springfield was quickly knocked down by Eugene Springfield Fire crews who extinguished flames, conducted an overhaul, and confirmed an all-clear after a neighbor's call — firefighters saved a neighboring house and reported no injuries while the cause remains under investigation.  KVAL
  • On Sunday, June 1, just after 1:30 p.m., Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a call when a vehicle plunged into the Willamette River near Beltline and firefighters rescued the trapped woman, who was then taken for medical evaluation — the operation was supported by a drone and Search & Rescue teams.  KVAL

CRIME NEWS

  • Community leaders in Eugene demanded transparency after officials said a suspect linked to burglaries at Asian households was not extradited due to an immigration hold in Texas—authorities continue to investigate the case and review extradition policies to restore public trust.  KLCC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gasoline prices in Eugene dropped by 4.4 cents in the last week to an average of $3.89 per gallon Monday, according to a GasBuddy survey of 78 stations — prices remain 9.3 cents above those a month ago but 14.3 cents below those from a year ago.  NBC 16

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials say the quiet zone plan to reduce loud train horns at downtown crossings is stalled by delays with Union Pacific and pending federal permits—construction may not start soon. The project, first proposed in 2015, remains mired in red tape as Eugene works with the Oregon Department of Transportation to resolve access issues.  KLCC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oregon Allergy Associates in Eugene measured grass pollen at 890 particles per cubic meter on Monday morning—well above the 200 level considered very high—and the sunny, windy weather on Sunday and today is keeping levels elevated during the typical grass season through early July.  KLCC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Oklahoma beat Oregon 4-1 on Sunday night as Cydney Sanders hit two home runs and Isabela Emerling and Dezianna Patmon added solo homers to push the Sooners into the Women’s College World Series semifinals. They were scheduled to face Texas Tech on Monday (winning twice over the Red Raiders and pitcher NiJaree Canady was needed to advance in the double-elimination series).  KLCC
