ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Portland man died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 58 in Lane County when his white GMC Yukon left its lane around 6:26 a.m. on June 3 and collided head-on with a gray Volvo semi-truck hauling a 52-foot box trailer (near milepost 36.5), leading to a three-hour highway closure while authorities investigated.  KVAL

CRIME NEWS

  • Eugene Police reported that Kenneth Dell Laster, 72, was last seen at his west Eugene home at 5 a.m. on June 4 and near the Space Age gas station at 8 a.m.—he does not have his phone or his medication due to undiagnosed dementia and a heart condition—and police ask anyone who sees him to call for help.  KVAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two years into its five-year Housing Implementation Pipeline, Eugene has permitted over 2,300 new housing units while only 172 are income qualified and 102 offer permanent supportive housing (the city provides land and fee assistance to spur these developments) (homelessness in Lane County has risen 14%).  KVAL
  • The City of Eugene has started construction on the Broadway Sidewalks and Paving Project to widen sidewalks and add a planting strip along Mill Street/Broadway without detouring vehicle traffic. In phase two, set for August, the project will pave Broadway from Mill Street to Hilyard Street — local officials urge residents to slow down near construction zones.  NBC 16
