CRIME NEWS

  • A teenager, 18-year-old Syrus Albert Silke, was charged Tuesday with first-degree assault and failure to perform the duties of a driver after leaving the scene of a February hit-and-run crash on the 2700 block of East 22nd Avenue that injured a 48-year-old pedestrian and required hospital treatment — he later returned to the scene and cooperated with police.  KEZI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Springfield Public Library and History Museum will host free multicultural events this summer at Fountain Plaza on 5th Street, starting with the Aloha Summer event on Wednesday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m.—the program also includes a Bollywood dance party and an indigenous cultural celebration in July and August.  KEZI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lane County Commissioners unanimously appointed Carl Wilkerson as sheriff, and he will serve through 2026 with plans to begin a full term in 2027 if elected.  KVAL
  • Eugene City Council approved $700,000 in Affordable Housing Trust Funds to support three projects that will bring 205 new affordable homes for low-income households. Legacy Park, Park Run, and The Lucy will receive funding and fee assistance — steps that will enable construction to start once state funding is granted.  City of Eugene

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Clayco announced that a 15-story, 491-bed student high-rise will begin construction this September at Alder and 13th—one block from the UO main entrance. The project called Alder Chapter will require demolishing three older low-rise buildings, including the Espresso Roma location, and is expected to finish by August 2027.  Eugene Weekly
