CRIME NEWS

  • Businesses along Highway 99 in west Eugene have faced daily theft, vandalism, and trespassing—costing tens of thousands in damages and leaving owners like Steve Gilbert frustrated as they report no meaningful response from city officials or police.  KLCC
  • Elisha Jo Young, 38, was arrested for five felony charges of embezzling tens of thousands from Eugene Weekly after U.S. Marshals made contact at her Ohio residence; she surrendered at Franklin County Jail on June 12+ this is her second arrest linked to alleged theft from 2021 to 2023.  Eugene Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local fire departments held a wildfire training exercise near Molalla earlier this month, with over 100 firefighters practicing techniques like building a black line using drip torches—methods that help control fires in open lands and protect nearby communities. Officials said the exercise prepares crews to respond quickly as wildfire season intensifies.  KLCC
  • The City Council approved $700K in funding from its Affordable Housing Trust Fund to support three new projects that will add 205 rental units for low-income households earning 30% to 60% of the area's median income—each project also receiving fee assistance and tax breaks.
