COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lane County Health & Human Services is asking local residents to donate water to help cool the unhoused during extreme heat at First Christian Church in Eugene. The drive will take place Friday, June 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.—water donations will also be accepted Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  KEZI

CRIME NEWS

  • Eugene Police responded to a robbery at a 7-Eleven on W. 6th where 31-year-old Russell Dalton Ward allegedly shoplifted and threatened employees with a knife—he turned himself in when officers arrived and now faces a charge of first-degree robbery while being held at Lane County Jail—.  NBC 16
  • Three suspects, including 27-year-old Ashton Isaiah Johnson from Cottage Grove, were arrested after an investigation into a robbery at Motel 6 on International Court in Springfield on April 4th at about 1 a.m.—the suspects entered a motel room and held a guest and his girlfriend at gunpoint while stealing property.  KEZI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Lane County Board of Commissioners approved forming a joint elected task force to tackle financial challenges in EMS. The task force — made up of five fire chiefs and elected members chosen by city mayors and fire districts — will work over the next 18 months to develop sustainable funding options and report to the board every six months.  KVAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lane County Public Health Officer Dr. Patrick Leudtke said Oregon now has its first confirmed measles case, brought from overseas (passing through Chicago to Portland). Health officials are checking flight passenger lists (to trace any exposure) and urging people to update their vaccinations.  KLCC
