- ➤ Today, Island Park in Springfield is hosting Willamalane's Children's Celebration 2025 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the free event includes inflatables, live music, magic and puppet shows, a sing-along, creative activities, and several free transportation options such as bike valet and bus rides via a code from the Umo app. KEZI
- ➤ Operation Summer Hydration in Eugene is keeping the unhoused healthy during the peak summer heat by offering water drop-offs at First Christian Church on Oak Street and 11th Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers continue to accept donations and have street teams serve the community—helping ensure that those without shelter can access water. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Howard Buford Recreation Area held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 27 for a new forested trail built over eight years to protect bird habitat and reduce muddy winter conditions + improve visitor safety. The trail rerouted hikers through a shaded forest area + offers a compacted gravel path that ensures wheelchair accessibility. KLCC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting July 1, out-of-state visitors will pay $12 per day or $37 for an annual permit in about two dozen state parks while residents continue paying $10 per day or $30 (the current rate); the fee increase (a temporary measure) will fund park sustainability and operations. KLCC
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Deb Sporich of the Eugene Police Department warned that leaving pets in cars during warm weather can cause them harm — a car can heat up dangerously fast in 90 degree weather. She said owners should keep pets at home to avoid fines and danger, and the Good Samaritan law allows rescuers to help if needed. KVAL
- ➤ Lane County Public Health warns that fentanyl in the illicit drug supply increases overdose risks at summer events and urges residents to carry naloxone—an emergency reversal medication—to quickly address signs like unresponsiveness and slow breathing. KVAL
