COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Suzanne Arlie Park in Eugene, the city's largest at 565 acres, began building shared trails and bike paths in June 2025 with Creative Trail Designs. The project—supported by a 2018 Parks Bond and a $1.2 million federal grant—will close some park areas during work and later add a parking lot near Lane Community College, road widening, and safety upgrades with a grand opening planned for late 2026.  City of Eugene

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A new Eugene report shows 51 traffic deaths occurred on city streets from 2022—2024, a sharp rise from 21 deaths recorded between 2019—2021. City leaders say speeding, drug or alcohol use, and arterial road design were major factors and they will work to improve road safety.  City of Eugene

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artist Esteban Camacho Steffensen painted new murals at Washington Jefferson dog park, which opened in March 2024, to highlight the park’s vibrant community space—funded by City of Eugene Cultural Services and Parks and Open Space Planning. The art brings the natural world to life on a public wall that connects residents with local culture.  City of Eugene

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Phase one of Eugene's Broadway reconstruction project is underway as one eastbound lane was removed to widen sidewalks—tree planting and safe short-term parking are planned. The second phase will begin in August with paving improvements and is expected to finish by November.  KEZI

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Emeralds picked up back-to-back wins by beating the visiting Hillsboro Hops 10 to 2 at PK Park on Wednesday night — Jonah Cox’s RBI-triple scored the first run and Dayson Croes’s RBI single added another — and they hosted a Red, White, and Boom game on July 3 before the series moved to Hillsboro.  NBC 16
