ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On July 3, Eugene Springfield Fire rescued a swimmer from the Willamette River downstream from the Knickerbocker Bridge after the swimmer lost a flotation device and an unhoused person performed CPR on a shallow gravel bar—firefighters then took over and transported the swimmer to RiverBend in critical condition after about 10 minutes of submersion. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ One person died after a house fire on the 400 block of 36th Street in Springfield on Thursday night when a domestic dispute turned violent as a woman reported her husband poured gasoline inside the home, set it on fire and fired a gun—authorities responded with armored vehicles and are investigating the incident. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eugene Police urged residents to call the non-emergency line at 541-682-5111 for fireworks complaints unless someone gets hurt or property is damaged — fireworks remain banned except for sparklers, poppers, and snappers. A dedicated team was in the field on Friday after police collected 150 pounds of illegal fireworks on Wednesday, and an amnesty event is held today at the west 2nd and Chambers parking lot. KLCC
- ➤ The Lane Fire Authority Board will meet July 15 at 1 p.m. at Station 101 (88050 Territorial Road, Veneta) to discuss a proposal to renew and slightly increase the local option levy on the November ballot to fund rising fire and EMS costs. The measure would add about $0.20 per $1,000 of assessed value to help hire firefighters, add staffing quarters and cover higher expenses. NBC 16
