ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On July 9, a mobile home at the Santiago Mobile Home Estates (near 53rd and Main) in Springfield caught fire and left one person dead with another in hospital as firefighters and the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office investigate the potentially suspicious cause. KEZI
- ➤ A driver was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon at about 3:35 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 105 when his pickup truck rolled onto its side and burst into flames, and he was taken to a local hospital—officials said the Oregon Department of Transportation later moved the vehicle to clear the road. - ➤ Cottage Grove police said that Fernando G. Rodas Martin, released from jail with an ankle monitor, removed his device around 1:50 a.m.—reportedly assaulting a woman who said she had no money and injuring her head and face—before fleeing near E. - ➤ City Cultural Services is inviting local artists to submit spooky installation ideas for Halloween Downtown by Aug. 25 and will hold an info session at 5:30 p.m. July 31 at Whirled Pies—approved artists will set up their projects on Oct. 25 and visitors will vote for their favorites, with winners receiving the Candy Corn Crown and Candy Corn Scepter and leading the 2026 pet parade. - ➤ A new industrial park began its construction Wednesday at Westgate Industrial Park on Danebo Avenue with $500,000 from Business Oregon supporting the project—23 lots ranging from 1.3 to 50 acres are planned.
