ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire in East Springfield on July 23rd just before 10:00 p.m. brought Eugene Springfield Fire to S. 55th St—firefighters rescued two residents from a smoke-filled home and transported them to RiverBend hospital, where one remains in critical condition and the other in serious condition.  KVAL
  • Firefighters responded just before 10 p.m. on July 23 to an east Springfield home fire where heavy black smoke filled the house, rescuing two people who were treated at the scene and sent to RiverBend Hospital with one in critical condition and the other in serious condition—fire crews contained the fire to one room and are investigating its cause.  KEZI

CRIME NEWS

  • At 7 p.m. on July 23, Eugene Police stopped 49-year-old Kristi Lee Loewe on the 3000 block of N. Delta Highway after the License Plate Reader flagged her vehicle for a felony warrant linked to a home invasion in Winnemucca—she also faces additional charges for DUII, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Appear in Coos County and was taken to Lane County Jail.  KVAL
  • On July 24, around 1:40 a.m., Eugene police arrested two suspects after a robbery at 13th Olive Apartments on the 1100 block of Willamette Street—one faces first-degree robbery and weapons charges and the other is charged with first-degree robbery and prostitution.  NBC 16
  • Former Oregon Ducks coach Antonio Alex Parks pleaded guilty to three counts of misdemeanor menacing in a domestic violence case—his plea deal dropped charges of strangulation and assault after a December 2024 incident at his Eugene apartment over a TikTok dispute.  KEZI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pacific Sports and Spine at 217 Division Avenue in Eugene offered free sports physicals for Willamette Valley student athletes on July 23 and will host another event on August 13 to help kids play sports. The clinic is open from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with no appointment needed—making it easy for families to get forms completed.  KEZI

  • Bodey Lutes from Marshfield High broke the 800-meter record with a time of 1 minute 53 seconds and has committed to join the University of Oregon next month. He said he dreams of following in the footsteps of his idol, Steve Prefontaine, plus he will major in physical education to help train future runners.  NBC 16
