  • Greenhill Humane Society staff said Krakatoa is a two-year-old, 50-pound mixed-breed pup who is shy at first but becomes loving once he settles into a calm home (foster-to-adopt program available). Families interested in adopting him can call the shelter to set up an appointment.  KEZI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • I-5 is open today two miles south of Goshen after a six-vehicle crash closed the highway on Tuesday—one person died and another was hospitalized, according to the Oregon State Police.  KVAL

CRIME NEWS

  • A man aged 34 from Springfield was arrested Tuesday in Lane County Jail for attempting an armed burglary in the Camp Creek Area—when a resident fired a shot on the ground, he fired back and eventually surrendered after negotiations.  NBC 16
  • Lane County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 34-year-old David Anthony Raymond after a shootout near Springfield on July 28 when a resident’s warning shot led him to fire at deputies who used a thermal drone to locate him—armed with a handgun and rifle, he surrendered following crisis negotiations and now faces multiple charges.  KEZI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Rep. Val Hoyle warned that Oregon—where nearly 18% of residents used SNAP last year—will face severe impacts from federal cuts to SNAP and other social aid. Her remarks at Food for Lane County’s Eugene warehouse noted that state budget cuts, rising food pantry visits, and new SNAP work rules add to the strain on local resources.  KLCC

  • USL Eugene is a new men’s professional soccer team that will play in USL League One next spring at Civic Park in a new 2,500-seat stadium built where Civic Stadium once stood—owner Sat Dhinsa said the team is expected to grow.  KLCC
