- ➤ Homes for Good converted a former 50-room hotel into Bridges on Broadway, a 56-unit permanent supportive housing community in downtown Eugene for people experiencing chronic homelessness. Residents will have 24/7 on-site staff and access to case management and support services — the project received more than $558,000 from the City to cover costs. City of Eugene
- ➤ The Cascades Raptor Center in Eugene said two new baby owls—one a Northern Hawk Owl and one a Snowy Owl—have arrived and are being trained before they debut to the public. The center announced a fundraiser on September 26 at Sweet Cheeks Winery from 6:00 p.m. — 9:00 p.m. to support its conservation efforts. KVAL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bethel School District is implementing a policy that bans cell phones, earbuds, and smartwatches during school hours—covering all areas on campus including classrooms, hallways, locker rooms, and playgrounds. In the coming days, each school will provide details on storage rules and disciplinary measures as they adjust to the state guidelines. KEZI
- ➤ The University of Oregon will begin demolishing Hamilton Hall this summer to make room for a new green space that will expand the campus quad by nearly 20 percent from the Erb Memorial Union lawn to Matthew Knight Arena. The project, which started in 2018, is set to finish by summer 2026—replacing the hall that served students for over 60 years. KEZI
- ➤ St. Vinnie's is partnering with Project Hope for a back-to-school fundraiser—accepting rounded-up store purchases and new donations at locations in Eugene, Springfield, Junction City, and Florence until today. Project Hope will distribute essential school supplies to about 3,500 low-income children at the Kids’ Fair Giveaways on Aug. 23 and Aug. 24. KEZI

- ➤ The Forest Management Department will show a 360 virtual reality film called For the Trees at Eugene Science Center on September 10th and 11th at 5:30 p.m. The film shows modern forestry work and ends with a panel to answer questions about timber, reforestation, and wildfire management — an event designed to offer Oregonians a new view of their forests.
