  • A man aged 43, armed with a filet style knife, spent hours on a bank drive-through roof during a standoff that lasted two days before he surrendered at 9:41 p.m. on August 31 at 1100 Willamette Street — he was arrested on disorderly conduct and criminal trespass charges.  KEZI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Average gasoline prices in Eugene fell 0.8 cents over the past week on Tuesday to $3.83 per gallon, though they were still 5.9 cents higher than a month ago and 25.8 cents above last year. GasBuddy data shows that if conditions hold, the national average will likely drop further into fall—continuing the trend of lower prices following the most affordable summer since 2021.  NBC 16

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews are preparing for thunderstorms as a Red Flag Warning stays in effect for the Emigrant Fire burning 23,404 acres 20 miles southeast of Oakridge; over 850 personnel are clearing control lines and setting up hoses and sprinklers, and forecasters warn gusts up to 40 mph may increase fire growth today—fire officials are monitoring the situation closely.  NBC 16

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lane Transit District and the City of Eugene will launch a two-year Downtown Loop pilot on September 7 to offer bus service every 30 minutes— including evenings— and improve access to the Riverfront and Midtown. The service is funded with Statewide Transportation Improvement Funds and will gather community feedback through surveys to decide if it will extend after Summer.  KVAL
