  • On July 28, Downtown Guide Joel Enriquez was patrolling E. Broadway when he noticed a group gathered around an unresponsive person on the sidewalk—he replaced weak CPR with his trained efforts until the victim began breathing again. He will receive a Life Saving Award on September 8 at 3:30 p.m. at the Lane Transit District downtown station—an honor for his quick actions.  NBC 16

CRIME NEWS

  • The Eugene Police Department said on Sept. 2 that a U-Haul truck was damaged by arson and a license plate reader led officers to 43-year-old suspect Gregory Anderson Gober—contacted at a Dollar General on Hwy 99N—before transporting him to Lane County Jail.  NBC 16
  • On Sept. 5, police responded to a 911 call from a West 3rd Avenue residence and arrested 39-year-old Matthew Ryan Pyle—wanted for violating a restraining order—at 7:17 a.m. after a standoff involving the Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT, drones and K9 units.  KEZI
  • Police arrested a 43-year-old man named Gregory Anderson Gober on Sept. 5 after a U-Haul truck was set on fire at a River Road rental facility on Sept. 2, and his vehicle was flagged by a license plate reader on Sept. 3; he now faces a charge of second-degree arson while in custody at Lane County Jail.  KEZI

  • Firefighters are battling the Emigrant Fire 20 miles southeast of Oakridge as they use firing operations and clear hazard trees to limit the blaze’s spread — the fire has burned 31,453 acres and remains 0% contained.  NBC 16
