CULTURE NEWS

  • The Eugene Symphony—marking its 60th anniversary—kicks off its season tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Hult Center with a special performance titled 'Fate and Fire' that features music from West Side Story, Vivian Fung, and Tchaikovsky. New director Alex Prior will lead the season, which will also offer jazz, sci-fi movie scores, and a fresh take on Handel's Messiah for the holidays.  KEZI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eugene School District 4J said House Bill 2655 lets any student opt out of state tests and has lowered proficiency and participation rates, which may affect funding. District officials warned that state and federal rules count untested students as not proficient—raising concerns over accountability and future funding changes.  NBC 16

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon Department of Forestry and the Lane Fire Defense Board ended the 2025 fire season and opened fall outdoor burning in Lane County today at 10 a.m. (the delay comes after a very dry period) and will close October 31 (residents must meet property size rules and follow safety guidelines).  KVAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Eugene is seeking volunteers for its Active Transportation Committee to advise on future biking, walking and bus projects—applications are open until Nov. 3 and meetings occur monthly on the second Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  City of Eugene

  • Banana Ball will bring a fun twist to baseball at Autzen Stadium when the Savannah Bananas face the Party Animals on June 27-28, 2026. Fans can sign up for the ticket lottery from Oct. 9 until Oct. 31—offering a chance to join the exciting action.  KEZI
