- ➤ Today, the 5th Street Public Market Alley in Eugene hosts a free football pep rally sponsored by the University of Oregon Alumni Association that features appearances by the UO Duck and Oregon Cheer, tie-dye stations, local vendor booths, and craft beer and spirits from McKenzie Brewing and Heritage Distilling Co — the event also includes a performance by Springfield High School Band and Cheer and marks the opening of The Racks in the Alley at 5 p.m. despite expected rain. - ➤ The Eugene Water & Electric Board moved its Truck-or-Treat event indoors to the Lane Events Center today due to severe weather forecasts — families can enjoy free trick-or-treating from decorated utility trucks and a poster contest featuring local 5th graders. KEZI
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ United Airlines will begin daily non-stop flights from Eugene Airport to Chicago O’Hare starting in late April — the carrier first offered service between the cities from 2019 until 2022, making Chicago the easternmost non-stop destination from Eugene. KLCC

- ➤ K-9 Thor — the only bomb dog in Lane County — worked for the University of Oregon and played an extra role on game days, while off duty he enjoyed life like any other dog. His work underscored his unique support for campus safety. KVAL
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ USACE will lower reservoir levels at several Western Oregon dams starting in October to create space for extra winter rain and to reduce earthquake risk—this drawdown will close boat ramps at locations including Cottage Grove, Dexter, and Fern Ridge. Some groups support the move for better fish migration, while nearby communities worry about its impact on drinking water. KVAL

- ➤ On October 15th, the City of Eugene’s Urban Renewal Agency Board approved working with Paradigm Properties to develop a project proposal for the North Butterfly Lot—an effort set to bring at least 80 new housing units and a ground floor that may include commercial uses near the Farmers Market Pavilion.
