ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters are still investigating the cause of a recycling facility fire that broke out Monday afternoon in Eugene—traffic on Highway 99 was blocked and no injuries were reported while safe operations resumed after a thorough check.  NBC 16
  • On Monday, November 3, a fire at Radius Recycling in Eugene caused heavy smoke that shut down traffic on Highway 99, and firefighters along with Lane Regional Air Protection Agency are still investigating the cause—contents from automobiles and large appliances played a role while no injuries were reported and operations were resumed.  KVAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Festival of Trees is a 33-year event at Graduate Eugene on 66 E 6th Ave that will begin on November 25 at 5:30 p.m. and will run through November 30 with tree tours, a senior day, workshops, live performances, and a silent auction to support Cascade Health programs & local vendors.  KVAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Operations resumed at Radius Recycling in Eugene Tuesday after a fire broke out Monday evening on Hwy. 99 — the incident forced lane closures and no injuries were reported as first responders swiftly controlled the fire.  KVAL
  • Daven Stetson from St. Vincent de Paul explained recycling electronics do's & don'ts in a Sustainable Spotlight segment published on November 4, outlining safe methods to dispose of or reuse devices. He detailed clear guidelines to help reduce waste and protect the environment.  KVAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Veterans will ride free on Lane Transit District buses this Veterans Day coming Tuesday, November 11th to honor their service. They must tell the bus operator they served in one branch of the U.S. Armed Forces — Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force or Coast Guard, and those with 50% disability will get half-price fares while riders aged 65 and older qualify for a free ride with an Honored Rider pass.  KVAL
  • The City of Eugene has issued a competitive Request for Proposals to fund a new crisis response program after CAHOOTS stopped operating, a report finding gaps in mental health and low-acuity medical calls. Former CAHOOTS workers with WVCC are set to apply & more than 100 community voices pushed city action as officials have not yet released a budget or deadline for the bidding process.  KVAL
  • Lane Transit District unveiled a new app today in partnership with Transit to combine services from PeaceHealth Rides, LTD and Link Lane into one easy tool for real-time alerts and trip planning—users should continue to use the existing Umo app for digital fares while the agency also upgraded its website for better travel details.  KEZI

  • City Club of Eugene is hosting a conversation — examining employer challenges in covering behavioral health care amid rising insurance costs and treatment gaps — at WoW Hall on Friday at noon, with recent studies providing the basis for discussion.  KVAL
