Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 1st of December.
Good morning, Eugene.
🏘️ Community
Whiteaker Commons, a new affordable housing project, will break ground today in Whiteaker to provide 120 units for households earning up to 60% of the area median income—transforming an empty parking lot into a community hub.
Community members may attend an informal reception at Tacovore on Blair Boulevard at 1:00 p.m., then join the walk to the project site at West Fifth Avenue and Adams Street—where the ceremony will take place.
🚨 Crime
Package theft is on the rise as more people shop online, with about one in four customers losing packages in 2024.
Expert Dave Selinger from Deep Sentinel advises turning on porch lights—using a locker or asking a neighbor to hold deliveries when away to help prevent theft.
