COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Willow Bend Park opens today in North East Eugene along the Willamette River on a 25-acre site converted from the River Ridge Golf Course. It features parking, a half-basketball court, paths and river access, and community input will shape future improvements — including a connection to the Ruth Bascom Path.  City of Eugene
  • A nonprofit pinball arcade opened on Dec. 9 near downtown Eugene at Claim 52 Brewing (232 Lincoln St) and now offers 17 machines from local collectors. The venue plans to host classes, tournaments, and livestreams during its hours on Thursdays and Saturdays and hopes to expand later.  KLCC
  • The Eugene Family YMCA is running its annual 12 Days of Giving Campaign with ten local businesses pledging to match donations up to $32,500 from Dec. 8 through Dec. 19. The matching effort supports community programs at the YMCA.  KEZI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Data from Auto DS shows packages in Eugene-Springfield and Bend-Redmond took an average of 4.82 days to arrive—almost two days longer than the fastest sites. Residents planning holiday orders are advised to order by Friday if they need deliveries before Dec. 24.  KLCC

  • The Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs awarded $800 million to 19 colleges yesterday to boost veteran resource centers that offer access to educational benefits + mental health support, easing the transition from military to civilian life.  KVAL

  • Local warming centers face significant funding cuts this winter — officials warn that reduced support could limit services and shorten operating hours.  KVAL
  • The DMV will offer new specialty plates for motorcycles and mopeds to qualified veterans starting next year. The plates—white with red 'VETERAN' text—cost $2.50 more to support Oregon Veterans’ Homes Trust.  NBC 16
