CULTURE NEWS

  • The Eugene Concert Choir is holding auditions on Tuesday, Dec. 16 for mid-season spots in its 100-member choir and 40-voice chamber ensemble. Interested singers must schedule appointments and prepare a solo piece, with rehearsals running weekly through mid-May and a tour to Puerto Rico next March.  KEZI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Oregon is demolishing Hamilton Hall in Eugene as workers tear it down for new green space that will link the Matthew Knight Arena and the Erb Memorial Union. The conversion is expected to include beach volleyball courts and outdoor recreation by late spring or early summer.  KLCC
  • The Eugene 4J School District faces a $30 million shortfall and has proposed $2.3 million in initial cuts to avoid disrupting classroom staffing; future budget phases will be presented in January with votes planned for January & February.  KEZI
  • Lane County schools are preparing for the 2026 Electronics Recycling Competition by collecting e-waste such as (cell phones and TVs), with registration closing today and organizers inviting community members to donate unused electronics for a chance to win school grants.  KEZI
  • Eugene 4J students released salmon fry into a pond at Alton Baker Park on Dec. 11 as part of an annual project teaching science, math, and Native American history in partnership with Eugene Water & Electric Board (a hands-on lesson on the salmon life cycle).  KLCC

  • The Lane County Board of Commissioners approved a search for architects to upgrade Lane Events Center with new multi-use facilities and hotel spaces — the project remains in early stages and will include community feedback.  KEZI
  • Lane County Sheriff's Search & Rescue located 32-year-old Erik Everardo Aguilar-Cisneros (who was reported missing nearly a week ago) in the Hadsall Creek area today.  KEZI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Caregivers from Right at Home in Eugene advise families to ease holiday stress for loved ones with dementia through smaller gatherings and planned daytime visits—helping patients remain calm during the festivities.  KVAL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sporting Cascades Football Club in Eugene postponed its debut due to logistical issues — the club said it needed more time and did not confirm a 2027 return, with further details expected on Dec. 15.  KEZI
