COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Western Oregon Exposition Heritage Fair in Cottage Grove starts today with three days of family-friendly shows, agricultural displays, and heritage exhibits. Admission is free with a can of food donation to support the Community Sharing program—organizers expect local neighbors to enjoy the event.  KEZI

CRIME NEWS

  • On Aug. 12, plainclothes and uniformed police officers in Eugene raided Washington Jefferson Park and nearby areas where they made 19 arrests or issued citations for drug-related offenses, including possession, delivery, and prostitution, and seized a firearm and brass knuckles — an effort to curb illegal activity in local parks.  KEZI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Oregon Hazard Lab uses 75 cameras to watch for wildfires in remote areas and sends alerts to first responders when smoke is detected—helping firefighters respond quickly. The lab, which started as a seismic monitoring center, also tracks environmental changes after earthquakes.  KVAL

  • Parkinson’s Warriors Gym will host its grand opening tomorrow from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 4065 W. 11th Ave. #50 in west Eugene — the event will feature a ribbon cutting, free food, a silent auction and class demonstrations for people with Parkinson’s.  KLCC
